About
LiWOR emerged as a ray of light for me during a difficult time, after spending the best part of 15 years building a wide breath of knowledge & experience in the Fashion industry I had also became more and more horrified at the impact this industry was having on the planet, when my career journey unexpectantly ended I felt it was time to make a change.
Having always craved more time to be creative & indulge in my addiction to making things, more time had arrived, but I was not content with a couple of new knitting or sewing projects, I explored the world of Natural Dying; something I'd been interested in personally and professionally for some time. So, taking all I've learnt from my career, mixed with my lifelong crafty hobbies & my new found love for foraging & connecting more deeply with nature LiWOR was born!
The goals of the brand are few & straight forward:
- To only use plant based dyestuffs that I have foraged or grown myself, or are food waste
- To champion the beneficial & magical properties of the plants used to colour LiWOR products
- To not follow the traditional seasonal plan of the fashion industry & instead work in harmony with the changing seasons, allowing limited dye batches to come and go along with availability and abundance of the plants and waste food products
- To minimise the impact on the planet by sourcing raw materials such as yarn very responsibly & carefully, keeping the supply chain of them as small and local as possible
- To use as much as possible, only deadstock or vintage woven natural fibre fabrics to create unique & useful homewares & accessories
- If I cannot make the product to dye, myself, for an affordable price (I can knit socks, for example, but very slowly & not very uniformly), they will be carefully sourced from responsible makers who are located as close as possible to Cornwall & will be hand dyed personally
I hope to share stories of my foraging & dye plant growing adventures, and to give my customers behind the scenes access to the dyeing & sourcing processes.
